ASSILE TOUFAILY
HERE’S HOW I MADE IT HERE
I was one of those girls who wanted to play football at a time where the sport wasn’t particularly accessible to them.
I eventually made it. Played in the Lebanese league, represented my country with the national team, all while suffering from the gender stereotypes that come along it.
In 2021, I put an end to my playing career and moved to France to pursue a PhD in Sports Sociology.
I have just started my fourth and final PhD academic year and I am expected to defend my thesis in Spring 2025.
My involvement in women’s football and my network allowed me to fulfill one of my longlife dreams: work in media.
I founded a women’s football dedicated podcast called « The Super Subs » as I wanted to offer female footballers in the Middle East a platform to talk about their careers.
Later on, I joined Forbes as a contributor where I mainly covered both Arab and French women’s football news.
I have also written for other outlets such as VAVEL, Al Joumhouriya (Lebanon) and on my substack!
